The series Kachou Fuugetsu is shown at Atelier K84.
Kachou Fuugetsu (花鳥風月) -Meaning ‘Flower, Bird, Wind, Moon’- is considered one of the most important concepts in
Japanese aesthetics and thoughts about beauty and art. In essence, it’s all about, “experiencing the beauty of nature, learning about yourself”.
Jet van Gaal, is inspired by this Japanese philosophy, and with ‘Flower, Bird, Wind, Moon’ she addresses the focuses on the relationship between our physicality and the forms of nature. The creative process is at least as important as the end result: the concentration on observing natural elements leads to the insight that the individual body is an
inseparable part of a larger, all-encompassing whole that constantly is in motion. Kachou Fuugetsu goes beyond mere attentiveness and also means: discovering yourself while experiencing natural beauty.
As children, we look at the world around us with curiosity. Full of wonders we can enjoy and dwell on the little things, but somewhere on our way of adulthood we seem to have lost that open mind. With ‘Flower, Bird, Wind, Moon’ – a work in progress – Jet van Gaal hopes to bring the viewer back to our forgotten wonders, connection with nature and the feeling that comes with it.
The photos are printed on a beautiful Japanese Paper, Awagami Kozo White,
