Exhibition Kachou Fuugetsu

04 January, 2022

My new photo project “Kachou Fuugetsu” will be exhibited at Galerie Kruis-weg68 in Haarlem from January 28 until February 26.

Kachou Fuugetsu (花鳥風月) -Meaning ‘Flower, Bird, Wind, Moon’-
Is considered one of the most important concepts in Japanese aesthetics and thoughts about beauty and art.
In essence, it’s all about, “experience the beauty of nature, learn about yourself”.

This was a big inspiration while photographing this project. With “Flower, Bird, Wind, Moon” I address the relationship between our physicality and the forms of nature. By going back into nature, being in the moment, and just observing. It has made me rediscover the beauty, magic, and intelligence of nature, how we are connected. Our bodies are an inseparable part of a larger and all-encompassing whole that is constantly in motion.

As children, we look at the world around us with curiosity. Full of wonder we can enjoy and dwell on the little things but somewhere in the course of our adulthood we seem to have lost that open mind. With this series Flower, Bird, Wind, Moon’ – ‘ a work in progress – I want to bring the viewer back to our forgotten wonders, connection with nature, and the feeling that comes with it.
